The final days of summer are here for families across Natrona County as students prepare to return to school on Monday, August 31, 2026, marking the beginning of the 2026–2027 school year for Natrona County School District students.

With the first day approaching, families have been taking care of the details that come with starting a new school year. The district has provided information covering school activities, transportation, required forms, and meal assistance to help students and families prepare.

Schools Welcome Families Back

Several schools across Natrona County have been preparing for the return of students through Back-to-School Nights and other activities designed to help families get ready.

According to the Natrona County School District, Back-to-School Nights give families opportunities to meet teachers and school staff, reconnect with classmates, complete paperwork, and become familiar with their child's school before classes begin.

Because schedules vary by school, families are encouraged to check with their child's school for specific information about back-to-school activities and schedules.

Bus Preparations Underway

For students who use district transportation, bus registration for the 2026–2027 school year has been available for both new and returning riders.

NCSD's Transportation Department also held a practice run on August 27 for first-time elementary school bus riders, including kindergarten students and students who are new to district transportation. The activity was intended to give young riders and their parents an opportunity to become familiar with the bus experience before the school year began.

Families Can Complete Required Forms

As part of the back-to-school process, NCSD is also reminding parents and guardians to complete the district's parental acknowledgment forms.

The forms include verifying family contact information and acknowledging various district and school policies. Families with students participating in fall athletics or activities may also need to complete the required acknowledgments before participation.

Meal Assistance Available

Families who may qualify for free or reduced-price school meals can apply through NCSD's National School Lunch and Breakfast Program.

The district provides both online and paper application options. Paper applications are available through schools and the NCSD Central Services office, and the district notes that one application is needed per household.

A New School Year Begins

For students across Natrona County, August 31 will bring the familiar rhythm of a new school year, from returning to classrooms and seeing friends to meeting new teachers and beginning new activities.

For families, the final days before the first day provide an opportunity to make sure transportation arrangements, required forms, school schedules, and meal assistance needs are taken care of.

As students and educators prepare to begin another year together, the return to school marks a new chapter for classrooms throughout the Natrona County School District.
