Standard Oil No. 1, a compact steam locomotive built in 1920, has returned to Casper after more than six decades at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado. The engine spent 42 years switching tank cars at Casper’s Standard Oil refinery before retiring in 1962. Its return to Fort Caspar Museum restores a tangible connection to the city’s oil industry and railroad heritage.

 

The museum is raising $15,000 to support transportation costs, permanent placement, and cosmetic restoration. Plans include making the locomotive accessible for closer public exploration as restoration progresses. The project offers Casper an opportunity to preserve an important part of its industrial history and help future generations understand the industries and workers that shaped the community.

Love’s Travel Stop has opened near Interstate 25 Exit 191 in Casper, adding 52 free truck parking spaces for customers, six diesel fueling bays, driver amenities, RV services, food options, and 24-hour operations. The 11,703-square-foot facility is the company’s sixth travel stop in Wyoming and has created 80 local jobs, contributing additional services along a major freight and travel corridor.

 

To mark the opening, Love’s is distributing $10,000 in charitable grants to the Food Bank of Wyoming, Dress for Success Casper, and Children’s Hospital Colorado. The site also reserves space for possible future electric vehicle chargers. A formal ribbon-cutting is scheduled for October 21 at 10 a.m. While the new facility is not a complete solution to the national truck parking shortage, it adds capacity and services that benefit commercial drivers, other travelers, and the local community.

The University of Wyoming’s 12th annual Giving Day, themed “It’s Giving,” brings supporters together for a 24-hour fundraising campaign featuring more than $1 million in matching funds and challenge incentives. With approximately 280 campaigns spanning colleges, departments, and regional campuses, the event offers multiple ways to support students and university programs.

Natrona County Library will host a free 3D Scanning Intro & Demo on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the Creation Station at its downtown Casper location. Led by Scott, the library’s Technology and Makerspace Specialist, the all-ages program will introduce participants to the Revopoint Miraco 3D scanner and demonstrate how physical objects can be converted into digital three-dimensional models.

The 6th Annual Natrona County 4-H Pumpkin Fest takes place Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds Arena Building in Casper. Activities include pumpkin carving, pumpkin bounce, pumpkin bowling, a craft booth, ring toss, a fall photo booth, a live animal display, a scavenger hunt, and a pumpkin food and nutrition area. For nearly 80 years, Wagon Wheel Roller Rink in Mills has been more than a place to skate. The Sunrise Fall Craft Fair returns to Sunrise Shopping Center on October 10 and 11, creating a two-day indoor marketplace where local makers can share their work directly with the Casper community. Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror classic The Shining returns to Studio City Mesa in Casper for its final Flashback Cinema screening on Wednesday, October 7, at 7 p.m. The 144-minute film, starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, and Danny Lloyd, follows a family's increasingly disturbing experiences at an isolated mountain hotel.

Casper College will host “Let’s Talk: Where Does Our Water Go? Understanding the North Platte System” on Thursday, October 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The free community event will offer an accessible introduction to how the North Platte water system is managed, including water storage, releases, allocation, and factors that can affect the region’s water resources.

 

The event will take place in Walter H. Nolte Gateway Center, Room 225, inside the Robert and Ruth Dove Conference Center on the Casper College campus. The evening will conclude with a moderated audience Q&A, giving community members an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the subject in an open public setting.

The Nicolaysen Art Museum will host its adult Corner Studio: Mini Treat Bucket Buddies workshop on Thursday, October 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Halloween-inspired creative evening costs $25 for museum members and $35 for non-members, with crafting supplies and light refreshments provided. The tournament features soccer, bocce, bowling, and cycling at venues throughout the Casper area, with the Opening Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday evening at Natrona County High School.

 

Beyond the competitions, the tournament highlights the inclusive spirit of Special Olympics through Unified Sports, the Law Enforcement Torch Run, and a community-supported Victory Banquet and Dance. Habitat for Humanity, The Heart of Wyoming will host From Info to Home on October 6 at the Natrona County Library, giving prospective homeowners an opportunity to learn how the organization's local homeownership program works. The session will cover the partnership involved in becoming a Habitat homeowner, the financial and housing considerations involved, and what applicants should understand before moving forward.

 

With the next application period scheduled for January 2 through January 29, 2027, the October session provides an opportunity for interested Natrona County residents to learn about the program and begin preparing. The program combines affordable, interest-free home financing with sweat-equity participation, creating a homeownership pathway built around both affordability and community involvement.

The WYFCCLA Youth Leadership Fall Conference takes place Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Ramkota Hotel in Casper, bringing Wyoming FCCLA students and educators together for a full day of leadership development, workshops, networking, and career-focused learning. The conference theme, “Sketch Your Future,” reflects its emphasis on helping students explore their potential and prepare for the opportunities ahead.

 

The conference begins with registration at 8:45 a.m. and continues through a closing session at 4 p.m., with rotating workshops, choice sessions, and a keynote presentation by speed-painting artist and speaker Rob Surette. The annual Crab Crack Fundraiser, organized by the Casper Shrine Club and Calliope Clowns, brings the Casper community together for an all-you-can-eat dinner featuring Dungeness crab, prime rib, and traditional sides. Tickets cost $45 per person, and guests can also participate in silent auctions and door raffles throughout the event.

 

All net proceeds support the club’s local charitable operations, including assistance with travel, lodging, and specialty healthcare costs for central Wyoming children receiving treatment at regional Shriners Children's Hospitals. “Voices and Votes” concludes its run at Fort Caspar Museum, giving visitors a final opportunity to explore the history of American elections, civil rights, and voting equality. The Smithsonian-affiliated traveling exhibition features historical photographs, archival videos, artifacts, and interactive displays that bring the story of American democracy to life.
