A Warmer Winter Starts With Us: Casper’s Coats for Kids Drive Calls on the Community to Give

As Wyoming’s cold season approaches, the Kiwanis Club of Casper is bringing the community together to help children, families, and neighbors stay warm, one coat and one act of kindness at a time.

In Wyoming, winter is more than a change in the weather. It means freezing mornings, snow-covered sidewalks, bitter winds, and long days when a warm coat can make all the difference. For many families, preparing for the cold season means making difficult choices about household expenses. A child may outgrow last year’s jacket, a pair of gloves may no longer be usable, or a family may find itself without enough winter gear to keep everyone comfortable. These everyday challenges are why community support matters.

Through its annual Coats for Kids Drive, the Kiwanis Club of Casper is inviting residents to come together and help make winter a little easier for those who need it most. The effort is built around a simple but powerful idea: a coat that one person no longer needs could become an essential layer of warmth for someone else.

The drive welcomes donations of clean, good-quality new or gently used coats in sizes ranging from infant to adult. Winter accessories are also needed, including hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, and snow boots. Whether it is a small infant coat, a warm jacket for a school-aged child, or winter gear for an adult, every useful donation has the potential to help someone face the colder months with greater comfort and confidence.

For families, having the right winter clothing can affect far more than what someone wears outside. Warm coats and boots help children get to school, allow people to travel to work and appointments, and make everyday errands more manageable when temperatures drop. A simple donation can help someone spend less time worrying about staying warm and more time focusing on the things that matter in daily life.

The generosity behind a community drive like this is especially meaningful because it gives everyone a way to participate. Some households may have coats their children have outgrown. Others may have winter accessories in good condition that are no longer being used. Businesses, schools, and organizations can also help spread the word and encourage others to contribute. Together, these small acts of generosity can become a meaningful source of support for local families.

Donations will be accepted through November 30, 2026, with collection boxes available at participating locations throughout the Casper area. Community members can drop off their items at Hilltop Bank, First Interstate Bank, Platte Valley Bank, Jonah Bank, ANB Bank, the Humane Society, PMCH, WYO Ortho, Millview Laundromat, Kelly Walsh High School, Natrona County High School, Wind City Kids, Wind City Physical Therapy, Industrial Screen, Casper College Health Sciences, WyHy Federal Credit Union, and the Salvation Army Hope Center.

The drive also provides a way for people who need winter clothing to receive support directly. Coat distribution will take place at the new location, Wind City Kids, near 15th Street and Melrose Street, on three Saturdays: November 7, November 21, and December 5. Distribution hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on each date.

Behind every donated coat is the possibility of a child heading outside with greater comfort, a parent feeling a little less pressure, or a neighbor getting through a cold day with one less worry. The impact may not always be visible to the person making the donation, but for the person receiving it, that warmth can mean a great deal.

Community drives also remind us that caring for one another does not always require grand gestures. Sometimes it begins with checking a closet, setting aside a coat that still has plenty of life left in it, or taking a few extra minutes to drop off gloves and scarves. These choices help turn compassion into something practical, something that can be worn, used, and appreciated when winter arrives.

The Kiwanis Club of Casper’s annual drive offers the community an opportunity to look out for neighbors and help ensure that winter clothing is available to people who need it. As the collection continues through the end of November, residents can take part by donating good-quality winter items, sharing the information with friends and family, or encouraging their workplaces and schools to get involved.

A warmer winter is something we can help create together. One coat may seem like a small contribution, but when a community comes together, those individual acts of kindness can reach families across Casper and make the cold season a little more manageable for many people.
