Some local traditions are easy to remember.

Maybe it's the music that stays with you. Maybe it's watching dancers move across the floor, discovering a new craft, sharing a meal with friends, or simply spending an afternoon somewhere that feels a little different from an ordinary weekend.

For Casper, the Casper Celtic Irish Festival is one of those experiences.

Returning August 28 and 29, 2026, at the Ramkota Hotel, the festival brings Celtic music, Irish dance, cultural demonstrations, food, crafts and educational experiences together for a weekend that invites the community to experience something new or return to something they already love.

If you've never been to the festival before, this could be the year to give it a try.

You don't need to know much about Irish history. You don't need to be familiar with Celtic music.

You certainly don't need to know every step of an Irish dance. You can simply arrive curious and let the weekend introduce you to something different.

And there will be plenty to discover.

The festival begins Friday evening, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and a concert scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday brings a full day of programming, beginning with doors at 9:30 a.m., an opening ceremony at 9:45 a.m., and festival activities starting at 10 a.m.

Music is a major part of the experience, with the 2026 lineup featuring The Harp Twins featuring The Volfgang Twins, The Steele City Rovers, On the Lash, Keith O'Brien and Davy Holden.

Performances from the Michael Patrick Gallagher School of Irish Dance will also bring traditional Irish dance to the weekend.

For returning visitors, those performances and familiar festival traditions may be exactly what make the weekend worth coming back to.

There is something special about returning to an event you've enjoyed before. You already know the atmosphere, you may recognize familiar faces, and you have an idea of what you want to experience again. But there is always room for something new, whether that's a performance you haven't seen, a workshop you didn't attend last time, or simply another afternoon spent with people you enjoy.

For first-time visitors, the festival offers a chance to explore at their own pace.

The programming includes educational sessions, demonstrations and workshops focused on Celtic culture. Visitors can experience activities involving Irish dance, Celtic knot artwork, hurling and other cultural demonstrations. Mike Sullivan, former Wyoming governor and former U.S. ambassador to Ireland, is also scheduled to speak Saturday.

Food vendors, artisans and crafts add even more opportunities to explore throughout the weekend. Rather than simply watching a performance and heading home, visitors can move around, talk with vendors and performers, learn something new and find the parts of the festival that speak to them.

That is perhaps what makes coming back worthwhile.

A festival doesn't have to be experienced exactly the same way twice.

One year, you might come primarily for the music. The next, you might spend more time watching the dancers or exploring the crafts. Maybe this year you bring someone who has never attended before and get to experience the festival again through their eyes.

And if this will be your first time, you may find yourself becoming one of those returning visitors next year.

The Casper Celtic Irish Festival takes place August 28 and 29 at the Ramkota Hotel, 800 North Poplar Street. With separate Friday and Saturday programming, visitors can choose how they want to experience the weekend.

Bring your family. Invite a friend. Come with someone who has been telling you about the festival for years. Or, if you've attended before, come back and see what this year's celebration has in store.

You may come for the music, stay for the dancing and leave with a new favorite memory.
