Creativity takes many forms, but sometimes the most rewarding projects are the ones you get to make with your own hands.

This weekend, Casper residents will have an opportunity to explore that kind of creativity through the Stained Glass Whimsical Keys Workshop at the Nicolaysen Art Museum.

The workshop offers participants a chance to work with stained glass and create their own whimsical key companion, combining color, shapes, and hands-on craftsmanship into a piece they can take home.

For anyone who enjoys making things or simply wants to try something outside their usual routine, the workshop provides a different way to spend part of the weekend.

Rather than simply viewing artwork in a gallery, participants get to become part of the creative process.

That hands-on element is what makes workshops like this particularly interesting.

You start with individual pieces and ideas, but the finished work becomes something personal. Even when everyone begins with the same general project, the choices made along the way can give each finished piece its own character.

The workshop also offers an opportunity to slow down.

With so much of everyday life happening on screens and at a fast pace, sitting down to work carefully with materials can provide a welcome change. Creating something requires attention, patience, and a willingness to work through the process rather than expecting an immediate result.

Stained glass can be especially engaging because of the way it works with light and color. What begins as separate pieces can become something completely different once they are brought together.

For Casper's arts community, opportunities like this also provide another way for residents to interact with the creative side of the city.

The Nicolaysen Art Museum isn't only a place to look at finished artwork. Workshops can give visitors an opportunity to experiment, learn, and discover whether they enjoy working with a particular artistic medium.

And you don't necessarily have to consider yourself an artist to participate.

Sometimes a workshop is simply an opportunity to try something new.

The Stained Glass Whimsical Keys Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, from 12:30 to 3:30 PM at the Nicolaysen Art Museum. The workshop is open to participants ages 10 and older, with minors required to attend with an adult.

There is a cost to participate, with admission listed at $35 for Nicolaysen members and $45 for nonmembers.

For those looking for a creative activity this weekend, it offers something different from simply attending another event. You'll spend part of the afternoon learning, creating, and working toward something you can take with you afterward.

And perhaps that's the best part of a hands-on art experience.

You don't just remember what you saw.

You get to remember what you made.
