Good news for Casper-area anglers: fishing access along portions of the North Platte River has reopened for the full day.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has lifted its voluntary afternoon fishing restrictions downstream of the Lusby Public Access Area and along Deer Creek, allowing anglers to return to full-time fishing in those areas.

The temporary recommendations were put in place as warm conditions created additional stress for fish. Voluntary closures during the warmer afternoon hours were intended to give fish a break during a period when water temperatures and conditions could make them more vulnerable.

With those restrictions now lifted, anglers can once again plan their fishing trips without having to limit their time on the water to cooler portions of the day.

For Casper and the surrounding area, the North Platte River remains an important part of the local outdoor experience, giving anglers an opportunity to spend time outside and enjoy one of Wyoming's well-known waterways.

While the voluntary closures have been lifted, responsible fishing practices remain important. Paying attention to current river conditions, handling fish carefully and following Wyoming's fishing regulations can help protect the fishery for future seasons.
