Local Team Launches Campaign to Host Renowned Barnstorming Baseball Sensation |
The Casper Spuds have initiated an online campaign to bring the Savannah Bananas, a team celebrated for their unique and entertaining approach to baseball, to Casper, Wyoming.
Since their inception in 2016, the Savannah Bananas have captivated audiences nationwide with their distinctive style of play known as Banana Ball. This format introduces innovative rules designed to make the game faster and more engaging, such as a two-hour time limit and fan participation where catching a foul ball counts as an out.
Recognizing the Bananas' commitment to fan engagement, the Spuds' co-owner, Kristi Hack, expressed enthusiasm about the potential collaboration. "We love the Bananas," Hack stated. "They're a fan-first organization, just like us."
To garner support, the Spuds released a TikTok video on August 18 featuring their mascot, Spudley, alongside a person in a banana costume, highlighting reasons why the Bananas should visit Casper. The video has resonated with fans, amassing over 70,000 views and approximately 1,000 shares on Facebook.
Casper's Mike Lansing Field, the only minor-league stadium in Wyoming, offers an ideal venue for such an event. Additionally, former Bananas players Dalton Maudlin and Robert Anthony Cruz have previously played in Casper, strengthening the connection between the teams.
Hack plans to attend an upcoming Bananas game to discuss the proposal further. Should the Bananas agree, the event would likely be scheduled for 2027, given their existing commitments.
This initiative coincides with the Spuds' recent transition to full local ownership, marking a new chapter for the team and its dedication to enhancing the local baseball scene.
As the Spuds continue their efforts, the community eagerly anticipates the possibility of hosting the Savannah Bananas, promising an unforgettable experience for baseball fans in Casper. |
