Sometimes, all it takes to make a walk interesting is to stop looking straight ahead.

On Tuesday, September 22, the WY Walks Bug Walk will invite Casper-area families and nature lovers to slow their pace, explore the trails at Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park and take a closer look at some of the tiny creatures that share Wyoming’s outdoors.

Beginning at 5:45 p.m., the educational community walk will be guided by an expert entomologist, giving participants the opportunity to learn more about insects while exploring the natural surroundings of the park.

For kids especially, a walk like this can turn into an adventure quickly. A patch of grass becomes a place to investigate. A leaf might hide something worth examining. A seemingly ordinary trail can suddenly feel like a living classroom once someone starts pointing out the small details that are easy to miss.

That is part of the appeal of WY Walks. The experience brings learning outside of a traditional classroom and makes curiosity part of the journey.

Instead of simply talking about the natural world, participants will have an opportunity to experience it together, ask questions and discover what can be found along the path. And because the walk is designed as a family-focused community activity, everyone can participate at their own pace.

There is also something refreshing about an evening spent outdoors without needing a complicated plan. A short adventure, a little fresh air and something new to learn can be enough to make an ordinary Tuesday feel different.
