Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk Shot at Utah Valley University Event

Incident Occurs Amidst Controversy Over Campus Appearance

Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, today September 10, 2025.

The incident took place around 12:10 p.m. local time, shortly after the event commenced.

Video footage shows Kirk speaking under a tent labeled "The American Comeback" and "Prove Me Wrong" when a single shot was fired, striking him in the neck.

He immediately reached for his neck as blood became visible, causing panic among the attendees.

A suspect is currently in custody, and authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack.

Prior to the event, nearly 1,000 individuals had signed a petition urging the university to cancel Kirk's appearance, citing concerns over his divisive rhetoric.

Despite the controversy, the university upheld its commitment to free speech and allowed the event to proceed.

In response to the shooting, President Donald Trump called for prayers for Kirk, describing him as a "great guy from top to bottom."

Former Congressman Jason Chaffetz, who was present at the event, criticized the security measures, stating they were insufficient given the contentious nature of the appearance.

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are actively involved in the investigation.

Kirk, known for his efforts to mobilize young conservative voters, has been a prominent figure in right-wing political circles.

His organization, Turning Point USA, aims to promote conservative values among youth.

The shooting has sparked a broader conversation about political violence and the safety of public figures during contentious events.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
