The days are still warm, the sun still hangs around into the evening, and Casper still has plenty of life happening outdoors. But we're getting closer to the part of the year when those easy summer Saturdays begin to disappear.

 

So perhaps this is the perfect time for one more.

 

On Saturday, August 15, the 34th Annual Riverfest returns to Crossroads Adventure Park, bringing the community together for an afternoon of music, food, family activities, craft beer, and one of Casper's most recognizable summer traditions, the Great Duck Derby.

 

The festival runs from 1 to 6 PM, giving Casper another opportunity to slow down, get outside, and enjoy a summer afternoon together.

 

 

An Afternoon by the River

Riverfest doesn't need to be complicated.

 

You can come with a plan or simply show up and see where the afternoon takes you.

 

There will be live music, food trucks, family activities, and craft beer tasting, creating the kind of setting where you can spend a few hours without constantly checking the clock.

 

Maybe you'll find something good to eat.

 

Maybe you'll settle in for the music.

 

Maybe the kids will find an activity they don't want to leave.

 

Or maybe you'll simply find a spot to sit, talk, and enjoy being outside.

And Then Come the Ducks

Of course, there is one moment when the entire afternoon seems to turn toward the river.

 

3:30 PM.

That's when the Great Duck Derby takes place.

 

The Rotary Club of Casper's annual fundraiser gives participants the chance to adopt a duck and watch it race down the river. And if your duck happens to be having a particularly good day, there are prizes waiting at the finish.

 

The 2026 Derby features hundreds of prizes, including a $5,000 cash prize, making those little yellow ducks considerably more competitive than they might appear. Duck entries are $20 each.

 

But the real fun isn't necessarily about winning.

 

It's about watching a crowd gather around the river, waiting for the race to unfold and cheering for their tiny competitors.

 

It's the kind of wonderfully simple tradition that makes a community event memorable.

 

 

A Tradition That Keeps Going

This year marks the 34th Annual Riverfest.

The 34th Annual Riverfest takes place Saturday, August 15, from 1 to 6 PM at Crossroads Adventure Park.
