Clear the Clutter, Protect Your Identity: WyHy Hosts Free Shred Day in Casper |
Casper residents can safely dispose of unwanted personal documents while supporting neighbors in need through WyHy Federal Credit Union’s community initiative. |

Old bank statements tucked away in desk drawers, stacks of outdated bills and forgotten financial records can take up valuable space at home. But beyond the clutter, these papers may contain sensitive information that could put individuals at risk if they fall into the wrong hands.
On Friday, October 2, WyHy Federal Credit Union is giving Casper residents an opportunity to clear out those unwanted documents and take an important step toward protecting their personal information. The credit union's Fall Shred Day will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at its Casper branch, located at 1521 Centennial Court.
The free community event offers residents a convenient way to dispose of confidential paperwork through professional, on-site shredding. Alongside the document destruction service, WyHy is also encouraging participants to support the Food Bank of Wyoming through optional donations that help provide food and necessities to people in need.
A Simple Way to Protect Personal InformationAs households sort through old paperwork, it's easy to overlook how much sensitive information is stored in documents that are no longer needed. Old account statements, canceled checks, ATM receipts and unwanted credit reports can contain personal and financial details that should not simply be thrown away.
WyHy's Fall Shred Day is designed to make secure document disposal accessible to the community, giving residents an opportunity to protect their information without the expense or inconvenience of arranging their own shredding service.
Participants can bring up to two banker boxes of unwanted personal documents to the Casper branch. A professional shredding truck will be stationed in the parking lot, where documents will be destroyed on-site.
To make the process easier and reduce potential risks, residents are asked to remain in their vehicles and drive directly to the shredding truck. Personnel will be available to help unload and dispose of the documents, allowing participants to complete the process without leaving their cars.
For those planning to attend, WyHy also provides guidelines on the types of materials accepted. White and colored paper are welcome, including documents containing staples and paper clips. Newspapers, magazines, glossy paper, black binder clips and spiral-bound materials are not accepted.
In the event of inclement weather, participants are asked to park and bring their boxes inside the branch.
Turning a Practical Service Into an Act of GivingWhile protecting personal information is the primary purpose of Shred Day, WyHy is also using the event to encourage a different kind of community care.
The credit union is partnering with the Food Bank of Wyoming to help provide food and essential supplies to people facing difficult circumstances. Although the shredding service is completely free, participants are encouraged to consider bringing a donation to support the organization's work.
For households experiencing food insecurity, access to everyday necessities can make a meaningful difference. Community donations, whether in the form of food or financial contributions, help support programs that reach people who may be struggling to meet their family's basic needs.
By bringing together a free document destruction service and a charitable initiative, WyHy is offering residents an opportunity to take care of their own households while also extending a helping hand to others.
It's a reminder that community support does not always require a large commitment. Sometimes, it begins with a small contribution made during an ordinary day.
A Timely Opportunity for Casper ResidentsAs fall brings cooler weather and a change of season, many households begin organizing their homes, sorting through paperwork and preparing for the months ahead. WyHy's Fall Shred Day offers a practical reason to tackle those forgotten files while making sure sensitive information is handled responsibly.
Beyond clearing out filing cabinets and storage boxes, securely destroying unwanted documents can help reduce the risk of identity theft and financial fraud. It's a simple household practice that can offer greater peace of mind, especially when dealing with records containing personal information.
The event also highlights the value of local initiatives that combine everyday services with opportunities to give back. For Casper residents, a quick visit to the credit union can accomplish more than just clearing out old paperwork. It can also become a small but meaningful contribution to the well-being of the wider community.
With free professional shredding, a convenient drive-through process and an invitation to support the Food Bank of Wyoming, WyHy's Fall Shred Day brings together personal security and community generosity in one local event.
Residents can visit the Casper branch on Friday, October 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. at 1521 Centennial Court. Those planning to attend should remember the two-box limit and check the accepted materials guidelines before arriving.
