Some of the best things to do in Casper do not require a ticket, a packed itinerary or a lot of money.

Sometimes, they look like a ball of yarn, a half-finished embroidery project, a sketchbook or whatever creative idea you have been carrying around at home.

That is the spirit behind Stitch & B!tch, the weekly social gathering at Dab Hand Yarn & Crafts, where local crafters can bring their projects, pull up a chair and spend an evening creating alongside other people.

This week, Wednesday, September 23, the group meets from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dab Hand's new location at 2123 E. 12th Street.

And with the shop recently moving into the larger space, Stitch & B!tch is stepping into a new chapter right along with it.

The gathering is intentionally open to all kinds of makers. You might be knitting, crocheting, spinning or embroidering. You might be working on something that has absolutely nothing to do with yarn. That is part of the appeal: there is no particular craft you have to know and no requirement that your project fit a certain mold.

Just bring what you are working on.

There is something special about creating in the company of other people. At home, a project can sometimes sit unfinished for weeks because there is always something else to do. In a room full of fellow makers, though, it can be easier to pick it back up, share an idea, ask a question or simply enjoy the process.

And you do not have to be an expert.

A beginner who is still figuring things out can sit beside someone who has been crafting for years. Someone may come looking for inspiration and leave with a new technique. Someone else may barely touch their project because they are too busy talking and laughing.

That still counts.

Dab Hand helps make the gathering even more welcoming by providing coffee, tea, juice and snacks, while the social is also a bring-your-own-beverage gathering.
