Casper Gas Prices Jump 45 Cents in One Week Amid Iran Tensions |
National average climbs 51 cents as Middle East conflict disrupts global oil markets |
Casper, Wyoming — Gas prices in Natrona County surged 45 cents in just one week as escalating tensions in the Middle East sent shockwaves through global energy markets.
The county's average gas price jumped to $2.96 per gallon, pushing Natrona County from one of Wyoming's cheapest to the No. 6 spot statewide.
The cheapest fuel in the county is now $2.69 at Loaf 'N Jug on South Beverly Street, followed by $2.79 at Sam's Club and Loaf 'N Jug on East 2nd Street.
Nationally, gas prices climbed 51.1 cents in seven days to reach $3.45 per gallon, according to GasBuddy data. Diesel fuel jumped even more dramatically — up 85.9 cents to $4.59 per gallon.
"In just a week, consumers have seen gasoline prices surge at one of the fastest rates in years after oil prices spiked following U.S. strikes on Iran and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
De Haan warned that prices could climb another 20 to 50 cents per gallon this week as markets react to oil prices breaking $100 per barrel for the first time in years.
Wyoming's statewide average rose 33 cents to $3.06 per gallon. Lincoln County now offers Wyoming's cheapest gas at $2.90, followed by Washakie County at $2.92 and Johnson County at $2.93.
The sudden price spike has reshaped the state's fuel market, with Johnson County — which had the cheapest average at $2.50 just last week — now sitting at nearly $3 per gallon.
Analysts say fuel prices will remain volatile as long as Middle East tensions continue and shipping disruptions persist through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.
