Wyoming Game and Fish Announces 2026 Fishing Regulation Changes for Jackson Region |
Anglers to Benefit from Extended Seasons and Increased Trout Limits |
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has unveiled significant updates to fishing regulations in the Jackson Region, set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
These changes aim to enhance angling opportunities while maintaining sustainable fish populations.
Jackson Lake October Closure Lifted
For over 70 years, Jackson Lake has been closed to fishing during October.
Starting in 2026, this restriction will be removed, allowing anglers to fish throughout the month.
It's important to note that this change becomes effective on January 1, 2026, meaning the lake remains closed in October 2025.
Increased Trout Limits on Snake River
Another notable update involves the Snake River section from 150 feet below Jackson Lake Dam to the gauging station 1,500 feet downstream.
In this area, the daily trout limit will increase from three to six, and length restrictions will be removed.
This adjustment aims to encourage the harvest of abundant brown trout.
The cutthroat trout limit remains unchanged at three per day, with only one allowed to exceed 12 inches.
These regulations also take effect on January 1, 2026.
Clarification on Effective Dates
There has been some confusion regarding the implementation dates of these changes.
All new fishing regulations become effective on January 1, 2026.
Therefore, Jackson Lake will remain closed to fishing this October, reopening in October 2026.
Anglers are encouraged to review the current 2025 fishing regulations and the approved changes for 2026 on the Game and Fish regulations webpage.
For further inquiries, please contact the Game and Fish Jackson Regional Office at (307) 733-2321.
These updates reflect the department's commitment to balancing recreational opportunities with responsible fisheries management.
Anglers are advised to stay informed and adhere to all regulations to ensure the sustainability of Wyoming's fish populations. |
