CASPER, Wyo. — The highly anticipated Barnes & Noble will officially open in early 2026 at the expanding Blackmore Marketplace Shopping Center on Casper’s east side.

Set for an April debut, the 13,000-square-foot store will showcase the brand’s newest design and offer a distinctive mix of books, toys, games, gifts, and vinyl records.

Joke Of The Day

Why did the ghost go to Casper, Wyoming?

Because he heard it was a BOO-tiful place to haunt!

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is urging hunters to be vigilant about fire safety as hunting season begins amid unusually dry, hot conditions.

Due to heightened wildfire risks, fire bans are now active on all Commission-owned lands in Sublette, Teton, and Lincoln counties, covering 18 Wildlife Habitat Management Areas and 43 Public Access Areas.

All campfires, charcoal grills, and wood stoves are strictly prohibited, and smoking is only allowed in controlled areas.

Lighting fireworks remains banned at all times.

Hunters are also encouraged to keep out of active burn areas for their own safety and that of emergency crews.

Those found violating the fire bans or causing wildfires could face fines up to $5,000, possible jail time, and liability for fire suppression costs.

Following these rules will help safeguard Wyoming’s wildlife and keep the hunting season safe and accessible.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department urges residents to help protect local outdoor access areas, which face rising threats from vandalism and irresponsible use.

Over 200 Public Access Areas and nearly 50 Wildlife Habitat Management Areas are at risk, crucial for hunting, fishing, and enjoying wildlife.

Destructive acts—like shooting signs—have grown common, making information unreadable and draining funds meant for conservation.

Annual repairs cost the department an estimated $60,000 to $70,000.

The Rock Springs Grazing Association joined Access Yes in 2022, but even increased enforcement hasn’t stopped misuse on its vast 25,000-acre property.

Local youth, such as BSA Troop #4, have stepped up to clean litter and debris, yet repeated vandalism continues.

If this damage persists, beloved outdoor spaces may be closed to the public.

Residents are encouraged to report problems to local authorities or the Stop Poaching Hotline at 1-877-WGFD-TIP.

Natrona County | Week of Sept 1, 2025

Waterbody Conditions Tips & Hot Bites
North Platte (Grey Reef → Casper) Good clarity; some moss; tricos early AM; PMDs, sallies & caddis mid-day Fish trico spinners & dries at sunrise, switching to PMD emergers and caddis pupae mid-day. When moss builds, go with short nymph rigs (2–3 ft) with split shot. Streamers work best on cloudy afternoons or when flows pick up.
Fremont Canyon / Cardwell Low, clear, highly technical water Keep rigs light (6X–7X tippet). Use tiny baetis/midge patterns (#20–24) and present delicately. Best windows are overcast afternoons; fish are spooky, so long drifts and stealth wading are critical.
Pathfinder Reservoir ~68°F; many small walleye; trout & perch mixed Focus on windswept points and submerged structure. Troll flicker shads or crankbaits for walleye. Use tube jigs (smoke or chartreuse) along drop-offs. Keep smaller walleye under 14” (encouraged harvest). Early mornings best for trout with crawler harnesses or spoons.
Alcova Reservoir ~69°F; trout improving from shore; kokanee beginning shoreline runs Fish rainbows/cutts from points & inlets with spinners or Kastmasters. At dawn/dusk, look for kokanee salmon cruising shallows—try pink/orange spoons or hoochies behind dodgers. Jigging deeper midday with Swedish pimples can pick up suspended kokanee.
Goldeneye Reservoir Quiet, NW of Casper; less pressure Cast walleye jigs or crawler rigs along wind-blown banks. For trout, try Panther Martins or Mepps spinners. Best when winds push baitfish against shoreline—kayakers do well covering water.
Yesness Pond Stocked trout & catfish; family-friendly For trout, use PowerBait, worms, or small inline spinners near the dock. For catfish, fish evenings with cut bait, chicken liver, or nightcrawlers on bottom rigs. Great option for quick after-work fishing.
Bryan Stock Trail (Lake McKenzie) Recently stocked with large channel catfish Target cats with stink baits, shrimp, or hot dogs on slip-sinker rigs. Early evening is best bite. Stocked trout will hit small spoons, worms, or PowerBait near shore.
